Javier Guizar, 72, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to his family.
Javier was born on February 12, 1954, in Nazas, Durango, Mexico, to Herminia Guizar and Amado Moreno. He often joked that he was lucky enough to celebrate two birthdays each year. Due to paperwork not being filed until April 2, 1954, that later became his official birthday in the United States—something he happily embraced, saying it meant double the gifts and double the joy.
In pursuit of a better life, Javier made the courageous journey from Mexico to the United States in the 1970s. His first attempt ended when he was caught crossing the border, but even then, he would recall how he was treated with unexpected kindness—fed a meal before being escorted back. Determined and unwavering, he tried again, and this time succeeded, beginning a new chapter that would define his life.
Javier built a long and dedicated career in the restaurant industry, working in establishments that ranged from humble beginnings to high-end fine dining. His professionalism and warmth left lasting impressions on all he served.
During his time in Los Angeles, he had the unique honor of serving Princess Fergie at the Tower Restaurant atop the Transamerica Building. Later, in Las Vegas, he continued his work in fine dining, where he served notable figures including Mike Tyson and Wayne Newton, and was even rumored to have served Tupac’s entourage. He took pride in his work and carried himself with dignity and excellence throughout his career.
Javier was a devoted sports fan, especially of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers. He also passionately supported teams and players from his homeland. His all-time favorite athlete was Fernando Valenzuela, and he admired many others including Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Clayton Kershaw, Kiké Hernández, Chicharito, Freddie Freeman, and Shohei Ohtani.
Above all, Javier’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his son, Javier Guizar Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Yvonne Guizar; and his beloved grandchildren, Audrey Guizar and Ethan Guizar.
In his later years, his deepest pride and happiness came from being a grandfather. From the moment Audrey and Ethan were born, he was a constant and loving presence in their lives. He affectionately called them “Mis Dos Amores,” reminding them every single day how much they meant to him. He would tell them how smart and beautiful they were, always greeting them with hugs and kisses, and reassuring them, “Grandpa really loves you.”
Javier will be remembered for his strength, determination, humor, and unwavering love for his family. His journey—from Nazas, Durango to the United States—was one of courage and perseverance, and his life was a testament to hard work and devotion.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, especially in the love he gave so freely to his family.
